NEW WORKS

PAST SUMMITS AND ROUNDTABLES

NAMT holds intimate meetings to discuss current issues in new work development.  The New Works Summit is a meeting of NAMT Members and Festival Alumni Writers, held regionally, focusing on the Members and the challenges and joys they face producing new musicals.  The Writers Roundtable is held in New York City and focuses on the Festival Alumni Writers and their work and needs as they develop their next great musical. 


New Works Summit 2011
at Goodspeed Musicals in Connecticut

Held in East Haddam and Chester, CT in conjunction with Goodspeed's Festival of New Artists, this Summit focused on new works development in Connecticut, creating homes for artists, and taking risks.

New Works Summit 2010
at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto

Held in Palo Alto and Mountain View, CA in conjunction with TheatreWorks' new works festival, this Summit focused on new works development in California, and the role of the creative producer.

Marketing Yourself and Selling Your Show

In June at CAP21 in New York City, NAMT members and Festival alumni discussed the writers' elusive art of presenting themselves and their shows to the industry, a topic requested by many writers at the 2009 Roundtable.

Regional Models of Producing New Musicals

Summit 09

Held in Issaquah, WA in conjunction with the Village Theatre's new works festival and the 5th Avenue Theater's world premiere of Catch Me If You Can, this Summit focused on new works development through various means outside of New York City.

In June at CAP21 in New York City, NAMT members and alumni writers shared ideas and insights on how producers and writers could help each other and better understand each other's needs.

Putting the Music in a Musical: From Piano Score to Demo Recording to Full Orchestration

The 2008 New Works Summit at CAP21 brought together producers, writers, and industry leaders to discuss key topics related to developing and producing new musicals. The Summit was an opportunity for conversation between creative and producing entities in order to help foster collaboration among the participants.
