Militello to lead NAMT

Nonprofit fills executive director post

Betsy King Militello has been tapped as exec director of Gotham's National Alliance for Musical Theatre, succeeding Kathy Evans.

A former management consultant, Militello recently served as veep of development at Outward Bound. She also has had nonprofit admin positions at Hunter College and the Big Apple Circus. Her legit production experience includes stage management and lighting gigs in pro and amateur troupes.

Evans announced earlier this year that she would be departing NAMT after a nine-year tenure in order to launch a development program for musical-theater creatives, the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat. First summer session of the retreat is currently underway.

Founded in 1985, NAMT caters to a membership made up of legit producers and presenters around the country. Every year the nonprofit presents the Festival of New Musicals, an industry-only showcase of brewing work that has yielded Broadway fare including "The Drowsy Chaperone" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie."Militello assumes her new post Aug. 22. Latest edition of the NAMT fest, including new works from David Javerbaum ("Cry-Baby") and Adam Gwon ("Ordinary Days"), runs Oct. 27-28 at Off Broadway's New World Stages.
